Wendell Eugene Whaley Obituary

Dalton, Georgia - Mr. Wendell Whaley, 82, passed away Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, at Hamilton Medical Center.


A lifelong resident of Dalton, Wendell grew up in the Dawnville community, graduated from North Whitfield High School in 1959 and then lived in the Eastside community for nearly 60 years. While still in school, he began working at Bobby's Drive-in. From there, he went to work in the carpet industry, first at World Carpets and later at Better Backers. He also worked at the family-owned Dalton Industrial Systems and Whaley Motors.


Wendell was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lucius and Grace Whaley; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Keith and Maggie Dooley; brother, James Whaley; and sister-in-law, Angela Whaley.


He is survived by his wife, Rachel Whaley; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Donna Whaley; daughter and son-in-law, Kara and Dan Oddy; grandchildren, Parker Whaley, Grace Oddy and Matthew Oddy; brother, Alvin Whaley; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Sid Derrick; nieces, Cyndi Hefner, September Truelove and Lindsey Derrick; and nephew, Ryan Whaley.


The family will receive friends at the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home on Friday, Aug. 23 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home's chapel at 2 p.m. with pastor Bruce Beach presiding, followed by burial at Dawn Rest Cemetery.


Serving as pall bearers are Mark Lentych, Mark Truelove, Gary Hefner, Aaron Truelove, Richard Adams, Robby Chase and Colt Ridley.
