Dalton, Ga - Ruby Mae Mathis, age 89, of Dalton, went home to be with the Lord Monday, August 5, 2024, surrounded by her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Tommy Mathis; mother, Annie Kelley; brothers, J.O., Clifford, and Butch Kelley; and sister, Katherine Plemons.
Ruby was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church and was a teletype operator at Chattanooga News Free Press for many years. Ruby loved to sew, garden, and she made some of the best apple cobbler ever.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Danny Hales of Chatsworth; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Angie Mathis of Ringgold; grandchildren, Matthew (Angie) Mathis, Keith Hales, and Timothy Hales; great-grandchildren, Halle, Crew, and Haven Mathis; her best friend, Amanda McBrayer; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family would like to thank Hearth Hospice for their extraordinary care.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. Darey Kittle officiating.
Burial will follow the service at West Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Julian Peeples Funeral Home on Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Salem Baptist Church to the Tuesday Ladies Ministry.
