Mamie Jo Poewll Griffin Thomas ("Suga") Obituary

MRS. MAMIE JO ("SUGA") POWELL GRIFFIN THOMAS - Age 75, - Of Stone Mountain, Georgia and formerly of Dalton, Georgia passed away Monday, December 19, 2022. She was born August 4, 1947 to the late John Henry Powell and Alice Irene Mabery Cummings. She was preceded by her sisters, Myrtle ("Pooh") Betton, Sylvine Powell, and Josephine Chaney, brothers, Larry ("Clyde") Cummings, and John ("Sonny") Powell. She was a member of Antioch Lithonia Baptist Church and a graduate of Emery Street School Class of 1965.


Survivors are her husband of twenty-five years, Morris Thomas; daughters, Davetta (Terrell) Williams, AyLisa Hicks, and Monica Griffin; grandchildren; great grandchildren; sister, Carolyn ("Honeychile") Baker Beck Binns; special niece, Shelena ("Shelly") Wilkins; goddaughter, Pastor Detria Anderson Smith; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces, nephews, cousins; other relatives, and friends.


Homegoing Celebration will be on Saturday, December 24, 2022 at 1:30 P. M. at of Willis Funeral Home with Rev. Rodney Weaver as Eulogist. Her remains will lie in state at the funeral home on Friday after 11:00 A. M. Interment; West Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Willis Funeral Home, Inc., Dalton, Georgia.
