John C. 'J.C.' Mitchell, of Dalton, passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at Ridgewood Manor Health and Rehabilitation.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Shirley Jackson; parents, John H. Mitchell Sr. and Annie Lou Mitchell; sister, Annie B. Moore; and brothers, Roosevelt, Charlie, Clifford and Mallory Mitchell.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Gloria M. Mitchell of Dalton; two sons, John C. Mitchell Jr. and David L. Mitchell of New York; two daughters, Darlene Weaver and Marlene (Bishop Claud) Jones of Dalton; six grandchildren, B.J. Jackson, Kevin Jackson, Cameron Weaver, Wesley Jones, Keyana Jones and Charmaine Jones; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Willie (Marsha) Mitchell of Calhoun, Earlie L. Mitchell of Covington, Ky., and John (Angie) Mitchell Jr. of New York; two sisters, Christine (Walter) Lane of Blackshear and Georgie Ruth Butt of College Park; and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Homegoing celebration will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Willis Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Erma Raymond, Pastor Kenneth Scaife and other ministers officiating.

His remains will lie at the funeral home on Friday after 11 a.m. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be at West Hill Cemetery.
