James Henry Hill transitioned to be with the Lord on January 3, 2021. He entered this earthly life on July 20, 1946 to Martha Hill Ward and the late John Henry Macon in Dalton, GA. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Lenita Hill Coutrell; a sister, Mable M. Stearns; a brother, Jackie Macon.

James received his early education in Dalton, GA. He is a graduate of Pearl High School, Nashville Davidson County School. He graduated from Tennessee State University (formerly Tennessee A&I).

James accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. He was joined in Holy Matrimony with Jennye Staten Hill in 1977. He served his country in the United States Air Force and received an honorable discharge. James enjoyed softball, bowling, and playing cards, but most of all James enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends. After thirty years of faith employment, James retired as a tax assessor.

James leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife of 43 years, Jennye Staten Hill; children, Andre' Hill and Ithenia Hill; his mother, Martha Hill Ward; siblings, Donna Macon of Chattanooga, TN, James "Chipper" Bryon and Charles (Christina) Hill all of Dalton, GA; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; aunts, Mrs. Lucy Macon of Dalton, GA and Mrs. Connie Fortson of Atlanta, GA; uncle, Mr. Russell Hill of Dalton, GA; in-laws, Henrietta Staten, Arthor "Fuzzy" Staten of Manchester, TN, Jeanelle Staten, Henry "Squeaky" (Annette) Staten all of Winchester, TN, and Reggie (Lisa) Staten of LaVergne, TN, a host of other relatives and friends.

A private graveside service will be held on Monday, January 25, 2021 at the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 3971 McCrory Lane, Nashville, Tennessee 37221. Smith Funeral Directors, Inc. in charge of arrangements.
