Jacqueline Stanley Obituary

Jasper, GA - Jacqueline "Jacque" Stanley passed away peacefully, at home in Bent Tree, on the evening of Friday, May 30, 2025, at the age of 91. A woman of quiet strength, fierce independence, and deep devotion, Jacque leaves behind a legacy of resilience, service, and love.

Born in 1934, Jacque made the courageous journey to America on her own at just 19 years old, sailing aboard The Queen Mary to begin a new chapter of life. She brought with her a spirit of determination that would define every step of her journey.

When she arrived in the U.S., Jacque began her professional life as a comptometer operator for the Railroad Express in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She went on to build a distinguished career in higher education and public service. She worked at Albany Junior College—now Darton State College—before joining Dalton Junior College (now Dalton State College), becoming Associate Comptroller. She also served as treasurer of the college's foundation and was an active member of NACUBO (National Association of College and University Business Officers), where she connected with colleagues from across the country.

It was through friends that Jacque met the love of her life, Charles Stanley. Their shared dedication to their work led to a beautiful partnership that extended far beyond their careers. Together, they traveled the world, Charles golfed in beautiful places, and they built a joyful life in their beloved Bent Tree home. Charles preceded her in death in 2010, but their love remained a guiding force in her life.

Jacque was equally devoted to her community. She was a proud member of the Pickens County Historical Society, serving as treasurer and also serving as the treasurer of Piedmont Mountainside Hospital Auxiliary where she volunteered more than 5,000 hours—

She is survived by her daughter, Laura Payne; her son, Joseph H. "Jody" Payne Jr.; her step-daughter, Cynthia Boblenz (Brad Boblenz) and their family; her grandchildren, Allison Bridges and Amy Bridges Gray (James Blane Gray); and her great-granddaughter, Ella Atli, daughter of Allison. She is also lovingly remembered by her "sister", Evelyn Payne, with whom she shared a deep and enduring bond.

Jacque leaves behind many dear friends in both Dalton and Bent Tree, whose companionship and kindness enriched her life and brought her endless joy.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no formal service. Her loved ones will honor her life in their own ways—through quiet reflection, shared stories, and memories of the strong, vibrant woman she was.
