Hoyt Edwin Jenkins Obituary

Jasper, GA - Reverend Hoyt Edwin Jenkins of Jasper, Georgia passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025. He was born on July 8, 1936, in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Irene Layne Jenkins and Cecil T. Jenkins. He graduated from Rossville, Georgia High School in 1954, the University of Chattanooga in 1958 and the University of Tennessee Graduate School in 1960. While at Chattanooga, he was a standout on the football team, serving as Co-Captain in his senior year.

Hoyt began his professional career working at the Eastman Chemical Corporation (later Eastman Kodak Chemical Corporation) in Kingsport, Tennessee in their research department. He then fulfilled his duty from his ROTC scholarship by serving as a First Lieutenant in the Army Chemical Corp at Fort McClellan in Anniston, Alabama. Eastman saved a position for him, so he returned there after his discharge.

Hoyt struggled with the decision to answer a call he felt to serve people in ministry to the Lord. In 1963 he answered that call and began study at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1966. At the same time, he served an appointment at Buchanan Methodist Church in Buchanan, Georgia. He was appointed to serve eight churches in the North Georgia Conference, his last at Jasper United Methodist Church where he retired after serving eight years.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Ann Murray Jenkins, his sons Dale Edwin Jenkins of Cincinnati, Ohio and David Brian Jenkins of Jasper, Georgia, his daughters-in-law, Cheri Cole-Jenkins and Gwenn Hope Jenkins, his son-in-law Kyle Kevin Stubbings, 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melanie Caroline Elizabeth Jenkins Stubbings.

A memorial service will be held at Jasper United Methodist Church in Jasper, Georgia on September 14, 2025 at 2:00 pm. Flowers may be sent to the church or, in lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Hoyt may be sent to Jasper United Methodist Church, 85 West Church Street, Jasper, Georgia 30143.
