Hazel Frances Woody Obituary
Rock Face, GA - Hazel Frances Pangle Woody (born Gazaway) departed this world June 6, 2026, at home after a short battle with cancer. She was born in 1939 in Dalton, GA, to parents Edna and Grover Gazaway, sharecroppers.
One of 13 children, Hazel grew up during the Great Depression and World War II. One of her cherished memories was seeing Hank Williams perform at the Grand Ole Opry.
As a young woman, Hazel worked as a carhop and waitress, where she met her future husband, Granville Pangle. Together they built a life filled with love and laughter. Hazel dedicated 20 years to Queen Carpet before retiring from J&J Industries. She proudly earned her GED at age 50.
Hazel enjoyed shopping with her sister Shirley, baking, gardening, reading her bible, and spending time with friends and family, especially her great grandsons; they could always put a smile on her face.
She will be remembered as a caring, devoted mother, wife, sister, and friend, whose laughter and warmth touched everyone she met, always quick with a laugh and a smile.
She married Granville, with whom she had two children, Deborah Ratcliff and Russell Pangle. She is survived by them, grandchildren Kali Ratcliff Roberts and Tyler Pangle, two great grandchildren, Lucas Babcock and Lane Pangle, several brothers and three sisters, Shirley Silvers, Linda and Mildred.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Granville, grandchild Katie Ratcliff Carr, several brothers and one sister, Jewel Pilcher.
Friends and family are welcome to attend a graveside service at West Hill Cemetery in Dalton, GA, Sunday, July 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., where she will be laid to rest next to the love of her life, Granville Pangle.
