Glenn Adelbert Coon, Jr. Obituary

Cohutta, Georgia - Glenn Adelbert Coon, Jr. passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, at the age of 93.

Born on May 16, 1932, in the British West Indies to missionary parents Glenn and Ethel Coon,

Glenn's early life was shaped by a deep love of faith and service. When the family returned to

the United States, those values continued to guide his life and work.

Glenn possessed an insatiable curiosity and a lifelong love of learning. While attending Southern

Missionary College, he met the love of his life, Martha Jean Powell. It was, as he often said,

"love at first sight." The youngest in his class, Glenn graduated with dual degrees in mathematics

and theology, later earning a master's degree in education and, years afterward, a degree in

pharmacology from the Medical College of Virginia.

Glenn and Martha shared a love of music that deepened their bond, and on April 23, 1954, they

were married. Their joy grew as they welcomed four children, two sons and two daughters,

completing the family that would always be his greatest treasure.

The couple made their home in Cohutta, Georgia, where they helped found the Cohutta Seventh-

day Adventist Church and remained devoted members for many years. A lifelong and devout

Seventh-day Adventist, Glenn's faith was both quiet and steadfast. Though naturally shy and

reserved, his gift for music—especially at the piano—had a way of drawing people together. His

melodies lifted spirits, inspired faith, and strengthened community.

Among his many callings, Glenn often said the most fulfilling work of his life was continuing

the evangelistic ministry begun by his father. His dedication to sharing God's love and message

was unwavering.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Ethel Coon; his sister, Nita Steffens; and

his beloved wife of 70 years, Martha "Marty" Coon.

He is survived by his four children: Glenn (Lori) Coon, Rena (Roger Muat) Coon, Marti Janene

(Jack) Hatcher, and Larry (Sarah) Coon; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren—all of

whom carry forward his legacy of kindness, curiosity, faith, and song.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff of American House for their

tender care during Glenn's final years.

Glenn lived a life of quiet grace and gentle strength. He looked forward with steadfast faith to the

day he would be reunited with Marty at the resurrection.

A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
