Chatsworth, GA - Mrs. Elaine Edwards has gone to her heavenly home and will be deeply missed. Elaine was a member of First Baptist Church of Chatsworth for over 50 years. She was a graduate of Murray County High School, Reinhardt College and North Georgia College. She was employed by the Murray County Board of Education for 36 years. Elaine was a 2nd and 3rd grade teacher at Eton Elementary and then later at Chatsworth Elementary. As a student, she had an endless thirst for knowledge, which manifested into the countless lessons and the love of learning she taught to her many students. She was immensely proud of her students' success and followed their achievements as they matured into adulthood, some having students of their own.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, J.W. "Red" Edwards, her parents, Marlin and Belle Holcomb, her grandparents, Jackie and Georgia Holcomb and Jim and Ellen O'Neal. Also, her brothers, Clyde "Bud" Holcomb and Jim Holcomb, her sisters, Rachel Holcomb and Becky Barnick. As the oldest of five siblings, she had always thought of others before herself, which she continued throughout the rest of her life.

Elaine is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Edwards, her granddaughter, Macie Miller, and their cat, Kitty. Elaine and Kitty were very good friends until the end and he will miss meowing to her on the phone very much. When introducing Macie and Cynthia, she would often say that they were her favorite daughter and granddaughter, which was comforting because they were the only ones. Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Betty Cantrell, her nieces, Janice Foster and Wylie Cantrell, and her nephews, Al Cantrell, Steve Cantrell, and Raoul Barnick, as well as other relatives.

There will not be a public funeral or visitation. Mrs. Edwards asked for a private service for the family conducted by Reverend George Ross. Burial will be at Eton Cemetery by Peeples Funeral Home. An offering may be given to First Baptist Church of Chatsworth in her memory. Elaine made an impact on everyone she met, and even though her legacy will live on, she will still be greatly missed.
