Donald Blake Hawkins Sr.. age 88, of Dalton GA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones.

Donald Hawkins, the son of Luther and Nellie Hawkins was born on February 21, 1936, in Ramhurst GA. Donald was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chatsworth.

He was the youngest of five children and the only boy. He was preceded in death by all four of his sisters, his loving wife and childhood sweetheart of 56 years, Patricia Ann Hawkins; and his adoring daughter Lisa Hawkins Bond.

Donald is survived by his son, Donald Blake Hawkins Jr.; two granddaughters, Sarah Guinn (Ryan) and Savannah Lockett (Jalen); and two very special great-grandchildren, Haiden Coffey and Kaine Montgomery.

Donald was a lifelong educator and a passionate coach. He graduated from North Georgia College with a bachelor's degree in history and served in the U.S. Army. He began his career at Westside High School as a history teacher, women's basketball coach, and football coach and is beloved by the Westside community. He continued his career in Ft. Meyers, FL as an assistant superintendent and eventually returned to Dalton, Georgia to end his career in the Dalton Public School System.

The greatest moments of Donald's life included being a loving husband, father, Papa, and friend to many. His life lessons and unwavering love for his family will always be remembered.

The family will receive friends at Shawn Chapman Funeral Home from 12 to 2 on Saturday, February 22, 2025, with service to follow in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Murray County Humane Society.
