Charles Lamont Nuckolls Obituary

Charles Lamont Nuckolls, 94, of Tunnel Hill, entered heaven Wednesday morning, March 30, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Nuckolls was a lifelong resident of Whitfield County. After accepting Christ at an early age, he lived an exemplary life and was one of the longest serving members of Tunnel Hill United Methodist Church. He served on the Whitfield County Farm Bureau Board as director for 35 years, retiring in 2015. Mr. Nuckolls was well known in the Whitfield County area as a baseball player and coach and managed the Tunnel Hill Methodist Church softball team for many years. He was inducted into the Whitfield County Recreation Sports Hall of Fame. He was an avid coon hunter and golfer.

He was previously employed by Conagra Poultry before becoming a full-time dairy farmer. After closing his dairy, he served as a ranger at Nob North Golf Course for over 20 years. He served in the United States Army during World War II, driving supplies across England in preparation for the Normandy invasion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Lucille Nuckolls; sister, Mildred Kimel; brother, John.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Veda Tatum Nuckolls; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Suzanne Nuckolls; daughter and son-in-law, Belinda and Blair LaVelle; daughter and son-in-law, Dwana and Joe Malone; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Kathryne Middleton; brother and sister-in-law, Denton and Al Nuckolls; sister-in-law, Martha Nuckolls; many nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Lamont Nuckolls are today at 3 p.m. at Tunnel Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jay Tenney and the Rev. James Mitchell officiating.

The family will receive friends at Jones Funeral Home of Tunnel Hill today after 11 a.m.
