Chatsworth, Georgia - Charles Lamarr Henry, age 85, of Murray County, GA passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Lamarr Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Dane and Daisy Whaley Henry; brother James "Jim" Henry; sisters, Martha Young and Rossie Ann Henry; and his nephews and nieces.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Betty Faye Rogers Henry, who cared for him until his final breath. He is also survived by his son, Kevin Henry and Laura Creasy of Willmington, NC; daughter Lisa Henry Edwards and Chip Edwards of Rocky Face, GA; grandchildren Charlie and Henry Edwards of Rocky Face, GA; brothers Waymond and Barbara Henry of Cummings, GA, Paul and Elizabeth Henry of Temecula, CA, Terry and Charlene Henry of Chatsworth, GA; sisters, Lillian Burt of Smyrna, GA, Doris Black of Chamblee, GA, Markay Wiley of Decatur, GA, Patricia West of Decatur, GA, and Sherry and Tommy Hayes of Crandall, GA. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who referred lovingly to him as "Uncle Lumpy".

Lamarr competed in basketball and track and field at Murray County High School. He led the basketball team to the first state championship in school history in 1960 and was named most outstanding player in the state of Georgia that year. Lamarr played collegiate basketball at Auburn University where he met many lifelong friends, but most of all his beloved wife Betty. Throughout his life, he served as the basketball coach at North Whitfield, assistant instructor at UGA, recreation director of Young Harris College, recreation director of Murray County, and finished his career as the principal of Spring Place Elementary School. Lamarr and Betty moved to the Henry Georgia Centennial Family Farm in 1978 and they never left.

Mr. Henry mentored many teachers and students and he took pride in being able to share what he had learned over the years. He was known for making a difference in others lives and is often described as a "friendly" and "kindhearted" man. Lamarr's pride and joy has always been his family, particularly his wife, children, and grandchildren. He will be remembered by his wife as a caring husband, his children as a loving father, and his grandchildren as an ever-present Papa. He didn't want to miss a second of his family's lives, as he arrived an hour early to every basketball game, baseball game, soccer game, or track race. He greatly enjoyed spending time surrounded by family and he touched the hearts of countless people in Murray County.

Mr. Henry retired in 2003, at the age of 62, and enjoyed playing golf and watching his grandchildren grow up. In 2014, 50 years after graduating from Auburn, he was awarded "Golden Eagle" status, in which he took great pride. This achievement could not have been more perfect for Lamarr, as this "Golden Eagle" also had a golden heart. He spent his final years sitting on his front porch alongside his loyal dog Clover. Mr. Henry was lovingly cared for by Angie Whitner who stayed by his side until his final breath.

A visitation to honor the life of Charles Lamarr Henry was held Sunday August 2, 2026 from 1pm to 3pm at Shawn Chapman Funeral Home. Interment will be at Sumach Cumberland Presbyterian Church cemetery.
