Catherine Sara Maddox, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025. She was born on July 1, 1935, in Cohutta, Georgia, to C.W. Cooper and Emma Huskey.
She graduated from North Whitfield High School and went on to earn a degree from West Georgia College. She began her career as a teacher at North Whitfield High School before transitioning into social work. She dedicated much of her professional life to the Whitfield County Department of Family and Children Services, working in various departments before becoming the Supervisor of Protective Services. Throughout her career, she was known for her compassion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to helping others.
A longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Dalton (now Christ Church Presbyterian), her faith was a guiding force in her life. She found joy in traveling, attending concerts, and square dancing. She was a caregiver by nature, always offering support and kindness to those around her. Her warmth, generosity, and sense of dedication left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Trammell Starr Maddox Jr. (Starr); her daughter, Tanya Maddox Kerr. She is survived by her son, Trammell Starr Maddox III (Trammell) and his spouse Rebecca of Newnan, Georgia. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Howell Kerr and his spouse Kayanne of Hilton Head, South Carolina; grandchildren, Molly Anne and Alex Kerr, and Alexis and Trammell Starr Maddox IV (Starr); sisters and brothers-in-law, Jane Abel, Billie Nesmith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday at Julian Peeples Funeral Home, Pleasant Grove Chapel, Dalton, Georgia, with Pastor Grady Cooper officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday at Peeples Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at West Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Christ Church Presbyterian, 510 S. Tibbs Road, Dalton, Georgia.
