Bassell Fredrick "B.F." Smith, 89, of Villanow, went home to be with the Lord and his loving Valentine of 64 years, Mary Lee (Kinsey) Smith, on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015.
He was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the European Theater of World War II, serving with the 66 Black Panther Division. He spent many days passing out more than 40,000 small Bibles during the past several years. He loved the Lord and his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lee Kinsey Smith, and son, Gary K. Smith; his parents, Aubry and Bessie Smith; four brothers, Daniel, George A., Julious P. and Nathan L. Smith; and two sisters, Mildred Wardlaw and Arlen Hall.
He is survived by son, B. Kim Smith of Villanow; daughters, Denice (Raymond) Daugherty of Dalton, Deborah (Danny) Hobbs of Villanow and Sandy (Steve) Wilson of LaFayette; grandchildren, Mark Smith, Michele Hall, Brian Smith, Sharon Nelson, Preston Clark, Scott Hobbs, Richard Hobbs, Amanda Little, Shane Smith, Adam Wilson, Ryan Wilson and Katie Wilson; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to all the friends and neighbors for their love and prayers through the years.
Funeral services will be at Wallis Memorial Chapel on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with grandson the Rev. Scott Hobbs officiating and the eulogy by Sheriff Steve Wilson.
Pallbearers are the grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers are special friends Frank Knox, Lou Napoli and Roger Avans.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Interment will be in White Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home, LaFayette.
