William "Bill"'s Story
William Lyman Bill Maples, of Cohutta, passed away Wednesday April 5, 2017 at his home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyman and Ann Maples of Cohutta.
Bill was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Dalton. He attended Dalton Public Schools during which time he studied piano at Cadeks Conservatory of Music(UTC) in Chattanooga. He also attended Emory University in Atlanta, where he received a B.A. in Humanities. Bill then received a Master of Music degree from Lee University in Cleveland, TN.
During his lifetime, Bill provided piano and organ music for various schools, colleges, universities, churches, ballet companies, symphonic groups, private parties, family, and friends. Bills musical talent was a gift from God, which was evidenced in his early childhood. He began piano lessons at age 6 and continued to study music throughout his lifetime. Bills great love for music was the focus of his life. Bill was famous for sharing his musical gift with the world around him.
Survivors include his sister, Jane Maples of Cohutta; niece, Sarah M. (Rosey) Swafford, M.D. and her husband, Daniel Hughes Baggett of Birmingham, AL; niece, Brittney Swafford Holland and her husband, Jarrod Scott Holland and great nephew, Hunter Jarrod Holland, all of Cartersville, GA.; great niece, Erin Lee Johnson and her husband, Josh Johnson, and Kadyn and Brooklyn, all of Cleveland, TN.; cousins also survive.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Dalton with Rev. Will Scott officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to First Presbyterian Church, Dalton, GA or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
