Mrs. Lula Mae Payne, age 80, of Summerville, Georgia, departed this life Thursday, October 05, 2017 at DeKalb Regional Medical Center in Fort Payne, Alabama. Lula was born July 21, 1937 in Chattooga County, Georgia, a daughter of the late Buford Herman and Mary Ruth Millican Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years, Kenneth Carter Payne, an infant son who died at birth, a daughter, Myra Jean Payne, granddaughter, Jessirene Tanner brothers and sister-in-law, Martin Smith, Joe and Shirley Smith, sister and brothers-in-law, Faye and Frank Kinsey and Larry Green.
Lula was a true southern belle, meek and proper. She never complained, always put others before herself. Her life was dedicated to her family and taking care of her children. She was a true angel on earth. She loved traveling and going places with her church sisters.
She was retired from Caron Spinning Mill and was a lifelong member of The Church of God of The Union Assembly.
She is survived by her daughter, Felicia ReNa Payne of Summerville, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Buford and Connie Payne, Clay Payne and Claudia Parker of Summerville, GA, Kenny and Malenia Payne of Dalton, GA; grandchildren, Charlie Payne, Kelsey and Jaime Payne, Andy Payne, Justin and Haven Payne, Ashley and Dustin Cole, Brandon Payne, Cassie Payne, Corey Payne, Michael Payne, Myranda Payne, Sydney Payne, Zachery Payne, Maddison Payne, Lynex Tanner, Tara and Omega Richardson; brother and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Betty Smith of Dalton, GA, Florence Smith of Summerville, GA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Diane and Bob Blackwell, Donna Green all of Summerville, GA, and Cindy and Jim Cotton of Lindell, GA; several great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Lula Mae Payne will be held Sunday, October 8, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at The Church of God of The Union Assembly with Reverend Michael Bryson, Reverend Rocklan Hughes and Reverend Pratt Hughes officiating. Music will be by Marsha Hughes, Margaret Smith and Cecila Kitchens. Entombment will follow in the Green Hills Memory Gardens in Summerville, Georgia, with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Saturday and after 11:00 a.m. Sunday until the service hour.
