Former Cohutta resident Kathleen Martin Sanders, 65, died with her family by her side after a long illness on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at her home in Skyline, Ala.
Mrs. Sanders was born July 24, 1951, in Banburry Cross, Oxfordshire, England, to Ken and Rita Martin. She attended Evans High School in Orlando. She moved to Dalton in 1973 and shortly after met and married Howard. Kathy graduated with a degree in nursing from Dalton Junior College.
Kathy was most happy at the beach with her extended family. She loved her career as an OB registered nurse, serving mothers and babies at Hamilton Medical Center and in Orlando for a total of 35 years.
She is survived by her husband, Howard; children, Jennifer Smith, Kenneth Martinez and Amelia Michele Stoneking and their spouses William, Pamela and Edward; sisters and brother, Carol Danforth, Ken Martin, Bitty Ricketson and their spouses Kimble, Libby and Eric; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Kevin.
A memorial service was Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Scottsboro Funeral Home. Pastor Dennis Johnson officiated. Visitation was held prior to the service.
