John William Hight, age 90, of Dalton, went home to be with his heavenly Lord on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rossie Hight, daughter, Jeannette Sosebee, sister, Mildred Smith, brothers, James, Lelton and Troy Hight.
Mr. Hight was born on May 4, 1927 in Bartow County. He moved to Dalton at the age of 22 and started working various odd jobs to support his family. He operated the grist mill at Praters mill for two years and he also worked in the feed and seed business for a time. He then started working in local carpet mills running machines and worked in that capacity until he ventured into the business of buying and selling carpet. He continued this job that he loved until he was 89 years old and his failing health forced him to finally give it up. He made many great friends in his 90 years of life and he never met a stranger. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Hight was a member of Eleventh Ave Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Bonnie Shipman Hight; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Joyce Hight of Chatsworth; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Garland Ledford of Crandall; stepsons and daughters-in-law, Edward and JoAnn Towe of Goose Creek, SC and David and Mary Brown of Jacksonville, FL; step-daughter, Deborah Brown of Dalton; sisters, Nettie Pritchett of Chatsworth and Betty Jean Evans of Adairsville; brothers, Harold and Clinton Hight, both of Adairsville; grandchildren, Michael and Christopher Hight, Lisa Rymer, Jeff Sosebee, Jill Hensley, Kathy Nunley; step-grandchildren, Lauren Hanson, Carrie Thomas, Linsay Cash, Joseph Chance, Thomas and Michael Brown; 9 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service will be held Friday, August 11, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Guffey and Rev. Robert Beavers officiating.
Burial will be in Whitfield Memorial Gardens. Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 until 9:00 pm. Special thanks to Heartlite Hospice for their care and concern during the illness and passing of our precious loved one. God bless you.
