William's Story

Mr. William "Bill" S. Garey, 92, left this life to be with the Lord Saturday, April 8, 2017, at his residence in Atlanta.
Mr. Garey grew up in Atlanta and spent his high school years at The Pennington School in New Jersey. After graduating, he returned home to attend Georgia Tech. As World War II began, Mr. Garey left college and served his country in the U.S. Army Air Force, working on flight crews on missions around the world. After World War II ended, Mr. Garey fought covertly with the Israeli Army, helping to aid the creation of the state of Israel. After serving his country and the nation of Israel, Mr. Garey returned home and worked with Lockheed, spending some of his time working in the space program. He retired from Lockheed and spent his retirement in Atlanta with his loving wife, Myrtle Garey. Mr. and Mrs. Garey were loyal members of First Baptist Church of Atlanta, and they were friends to many in their community, generously donating their time, energy and resources to various causes. He and his wife were tirelessly dedicated to helping further the cause of the Gospel around the world.
Mr. Garey was preceded in death by his father and mother, Harry Garey Sr. and Emily Sanchez Garey; his brother, Harry Garey Jr.; his sister, Mavis Garey Moore; and his beloved wife, Myrtle Lucille Walker Garey.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William Paul and Jennifer Garey of Atlanta; daughter, Sandra Chancey of Marietta; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Kenneth Wright of Tennga; sisters-in-law, Edna Taylor of Chatsworth and Jeanette Crocker of Tennga; brothers-in-law, Paul Walker of Dalton and the Rev. Isaac Walker of Tennga; grandchildren, Michael Ogle, Emma Chancey, Erica Mason, Nick Garey, Allison Garey, Tim Wright and Kelly Wright; great-grandchildren, Ethan Ogle, Miranda Ogle, Jarrod Wright, Abby Wright, Kaylee Wright, Skyleigh Wright and Ava Mason; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Garey will be Friday at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home in Chatsworth with the Rev. Isaac Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Fairy Valley Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Peeples Funeral Home in Chatsworth.
Peeples Funeral Home and Crematory of Chatsworth is in charge of the arrangements.
