Willard Poteet, 99, of Dalton, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017, at Calhoun Health Care.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sybil Felker Poteet; granddaughter, Java Poteet; parents, Jepithu and Eddy Poteet; two sisters, Pauline Dunn and Myrtle Patterson; brothers, Clifford, Clinton, Leonard, Junior, Walter and Claudie Poteet.
Mr. Poteet was a longtime member of Harmony Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, and he retired from North Georgia Electric Membership Corp. after 36 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Fourth Division with a recon unit. He received a Bronze Star and served in Normandy, Belgium, France and in the Battle of the Bulge.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Reba and Terry Crump of Calhoun; son, Jesse Willard Poteet Jr. of Dalton; sister, Lois McBrayer of Dalton; grandchildren, Jade and Graciela Poteet, Nikki and Mitch Ralston, and Tonya and Shawn Prather; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home with the Rev. Lamar Beason and the Rev. Joe Hall officiating. Burial will be in Whitfield Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be rendered by American Legion Post No. 112.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 until 8 p.m.
