Thelma Jane Turner

February 14, 1934 - March 13, 2019

Thelma Jane Turner Thelma Turner passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019. She was a
beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all was born on February 14th, and she was the embodiment of a Valentine's Day baby. Valentine's Day exists as a special, once-a-year reminder of the transformative power of love. To do that, we send small trinkets, candy, and flowers to the ones we love to remind them of the special place they hold in our heart. Thelma helped others spread joy and love every day as a florist, but she made certain to personally remind her close friends, family, and customers how much they meant to her every day of the year. Beyond her circle of friends and family, she always purchased items from any local entrepreneur selling their goods or any local children selling items for school fundraisers or scout programs. She understood how hard it was to get a business off the ground, and she always wanted to help someone achieve their dreams.

Thelma knew what it was like to start and run a successful, decades long business. She was the florist in her and her sister's shop, "Westside Hair Fashions and Florist," the Rocky Face mainstay known for a true Steel Magnolias experience. She was well known for crafting the most unique flower arrangements for weddings, home decor, funerals, and, of course, crafting the most beautiful flower arrangements to give to loved ones just like her Valentine's Day birth ordained.

In return, Thelma was loved fiercely by her friends, family, and customers. She fell madly in love with Lynn Turner the day she set eyes on him, and they lived devoted and happily together for 62 years. Her greatest joy in life was being a mother to Mark Turner, and a grandmother to Vann Lucas Turner.

She was preceded in life by her parents, Claude and Reba Byers and her beloved brother, Raymond Byers. She is survived by her loving husband, Lynn Turner; her adoring son, Mark Turner; and the apple of her eye, Vann Lucas Turner, her grandson; her sister and business partner, Lucille Correll; her sisters Hazel White and Dot Grimes, and her brothers Claude Byers and Dale Byers, as well as several doting nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service commemorating her beautiful and love-filled life will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019 at Julian Peeples Funeral Home in Rocky Face at 7pm. The family will receive guests starting at 5pm. Flowers or donations to the New Beginnings Baptist Church for their upcoming Bible Camp are greatly appreciated. You may leave the family a message or light a candle on the tribute wall at
