Rosa's Story

Ms. Rosa Belle "Cootie" Stephens, 84, of Dalton, entered into eternity very peacefully during a spring thunderstorm Saturday afternoon, May 6, 2017, at Wood Dale Health Care surrounded by her loving family. Rosa was born April 8, 1933, in Dalton, a daughter of the late Johnny Marion and Jennie Mae Brock Wofford. She was raised by her grandparents, Jim and Rosa A. Brock. She was also preceded in death by the father of her children, Don E. Stephens; a sister, Jennie Mae Cudd; and a brother, John H. Wofford.
Rosa worked her whole life and was a great inspiration to not only her family, but everyone she came into contact with. Her greatest legacy is her big heart. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Vickie Stephens of Crandall, Ron and Brenda Stephens of Chatsworth and Terry Stephens of Atlanta; daughter and son-in-law, Melody and Kelly Pittman of Dalton; grandchildren, Brett and Jennie Stephens, McKenny Pittman, Caroline Pittman, Iris and Gary Pruitt and Erin Stephens; great-grandchildren, Kinsley Stephens, Chloe Stephens, Braxton Jackson and Genevieve Pruitt; brother, Eugene Wofford of Dalton; sister-in-law, Margaret Wofford of Dalton; sisters, Carolyn Blackstock of Calhoun and Barbara Blackstock of Resaca; several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Ms. Rosa Belle Stephens will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with her family sharing and honoring her. She will be laid to rest at Ponders Colonial Hills Memorial Park Cemetery with her family serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5 until 9 p.m. today and after 11 a.m. Wednesday until the service hour.
