Lois Fletcher Blaylock
Matriarch of her small, close family, Lois Fletcher Blaylock loved her only daughter, Teresa Blaylock Hobson (Kosta Milosevic), and only granddaughter, Jordan Hobson Creel (Jake Creel). Born in Dalton, Georgia in 1925, her father was a preacher while her mother worked in the home and raised her four children, Ralph, Lois, Evelyn and Esther. When everyone thought she was too young to do it, Lois married Marvin Ray Blaylock. They spent 56 years together before his death. With Marvins Army posts, they moved to Denver and New Orleans. They moved back to Dalton later, where Lois owned Fabrics of Dalton and Marvin served as a union organizer. They settled eventually in Athens, Georgia, close to their daughters young family. Funny, precocious and genuine, Lois charmed most people and one, very devoted dog. She knew her own mind and expressed her opinions readily, attracting young people especially who took the opportunity to talk to her about their love life, family troubles, triumphs and disappointmentsall of this usually during the course of a game of Scrabble, where she often won and usually cheated. In the years before and days after her passing on May 4, 2017, her immediate family is gratefully reminded that people generally thought of her as their owntheir own grandmother, mother, sister, friend, confidant. In a small family, these extensions and additions mean everything.
A memorial service honoring Lois will be held graveside on Saturday, May 13 at 1PM at Whitfield Memorial Gardens (710 W Cuyler St, Dalton, GA 30720).
St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
