Joseph "Bear" Gambrell, 53, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at his home in Bozeman, Mont., following a short battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 3, 1963, in Huntsville, Ala., to William and Roxie Gambrell. He grew up in Dalton, graduating from Southeast Whitfield High School.
On July 4, 1984, Bear married Monica Nadu in Dalton.
Bear lived in Dalton up until three years ago when he came to Bozeman to help start Bedrock Church. Bear worked for the city of Dalton in the Public Works Department as a recycling driver. After moving to Bozeman, he took a job as a custodian at Ridgeview Elementary School in Belgrade.
He was a member of Mount Rachel Baptist Church in Dalton and Bedrock Church in Bozeman, Mont.
Bear is survived by his wife, Monica of Bozeman, Mont.; daughters, Rachel (Chris) Damm of Adams, N.Y., Sarah (Ben) Jaeger of Norfolk, Va., and Rebekah Gambrell of Bozeman, Mont.; sons, Daniel Gambrell of Dalton and David Gambrell of Chattanooga, Tenn.; sisters, Roxanne Shannon of Crandall and Janet Womack of Greensboro, S.C.; grandchildren, Kayla and Maggie Gambrell and Paxton and Chloe Jaeger.
A memorial service was held on May 28 at Heritage Christian School (Bedrock Church).
