Reverend James Carl Davenport, age 82, of Chatsworth, GA, departed this life, Tuesday December 26, 2017 at his home with his loving family at his side. James was born August 19, 1935 in Oakman, Georgia, a son of the late Herbert and Willie Holbert Davenport. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Lois Inez Maize and his brothers, Curtis J. Davenport and Clarence Reed Davenport and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hershel and Willie Bell Walraven Parker.
James proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, Air Force and the Merchant Marines during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He joined the military at the age of sixteen. James was the owner and founder of Davenport Reality and Appraisals. His true calling was serving Jesus Christ and was ordained into the ministry and was the pastor of Westside Church of God for over fifteen years. He was a member of Cross Pointe Christian Center.
He is survived by his loving wife of forty-four years, Dolly Parker Davenport of the residence; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie Renae and Shane Tatum; son and daughter-in-law, James C. and Kristy Davenport, Jr. all of Chatsworth, GA; grandchildren, Jae and Nikki Davenport, James C. (Trae) Davenport, III, Kaeden Michael Davenport and Addison Grace Davenport; great-grandson, Jaxson Davenport; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and Mary Davenport of Chatsworth, GA, Raymond and Sonia Davenport of Dalton, GA, Bobby and Jan Davenport of Chatsworth, GA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harrison and Wanda Parker, Charles and Debra Parker, Paul and Denise Parker, Bobby and Diane Parker and Annette and Junior Jackson all of Chatsworth, GA; several nieces, nephews and many special cousins.
Services to celebrate the life of Reverend James C. Davenport will be held Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Cross Pointe Christian Center with Reverend Stan Lester, Reverend Hal Thompson and Reverend Raymond McCranie officiating. He will be laid to rest at Ponders Murray Memorial Gardens with Jimmy Davenport, James Davenport, III, Shane Tatum, Jae Davenport, Junior Jackson, Bobby Parker, Paul Parker and Charles Parker serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers, Roy Davenport, Raymond Davenport, Bobby Davenport and Reverend Mike Watkins, Reverend Keith Reid and Reverend Mike Douglas. Military Graveside honors will be provided by the Dalton American Legion Post #112. The family will receive friends at Cross Pointe Christian Center from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday.
