Mr. Jack Gibson, 79, of Dalton, departed this life Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, at the local hospital. Jack was born Oct. 11, 1937, in Jasper, son of the late Andrew Newton Gibson Sr. and Edda Mae Evans Gibson. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Andrew Gibson Jr. and Frank Gibson; and sisters, Ruth Mullins, Kate Johnson and Ann Gibson.
He proudly served in the United States Army. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Willie Jean Gibson of the residence; sons and daughters-in-law, James Timothy and Tammy Gibson of Monroe, Greg and Laura Gibson of Travelers Rest, S.C., and Andy Gibson of Dalton; sisters and brother-in-law, Faye Walker of Florida, Jelane Kelley of Dawsonville and Melba and Vernon Sullivan of Jasper; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews.
Service to celebrate the life of Mr. Jack Gibson will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. from Ponders Melrose Chapel. Interment will follow in Georgia National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. with military honors by American Legion Post No. 112. His sons and grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends today from Ponders Melrose Chapel from 6 until 8 p.m.
