Mrs. Ireta Faye Henson Vaker, 57, of Dalton, departed this life Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at her home. She was born Aug. 13, 1960, in Atlanta. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Charlie Wayne Henson; parents, Oscar and Dorothy Smith; and father and mothers-in-law, Ralph and Elizabeth Henson and Danny Watts.
She is survived by her five children, Serina and David Perry, Tabatha and Kenneth Knipp, Veronica and Brian Yerty, Charlie Henson and Litha and Isaiah Machoka; 14 grandchildren, Jamie Cotton Morgan, Charley Perry, Charles "C.L." Quarles, Matthew Quarles, Addison Quarles, Cheyanne Quarles, Starr Hackney, Michael "Bubba" Hackney, Justin Yerty, Krystal Yerty, Madison Henson, Kayla Henson, Elizabeth Wheeler-Henson and J.R. Machoka; fiancee, Daniel Scoggins; dear friend (sister), Anita Wooden; sisters, Tammy Gibson and Betty Jo Strickland; brother, Oscar Smith II; special friends, Megan Fox and kids, Kyrie Bell and kids, and Kayla Fauscett; several nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Wanda Hensley and Lisa Shipman.
Service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Ireta Faye Henson Vaker will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from the Ponders Melrose Chapel with the Rev. Danny Thomas and the Rev. David Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in the Ponders Colonial Hills Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Deal officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 9 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to help with expenses.
