Floyd's Story

Mr. Floyd "Wendell Ray" Rich, 84, of Dalton, departed this life Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at the local hospital.
He was born on Oct. 26, 1932, in Blairsville, a son to the late Harry Benjamin and Mamie Lillian Deaver Rich. He is also preceded by his stepmother, Mamie Rodgers Rich; sister, Carmel Tutherow; and brothers, Solomon and Roland Rich.
He was retired from the United States Air Force as a master sergeant. He retired from Lockheed Martin as a software engineer as well as from Unisys and Merand. He was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church. He loved his church and his church family. He was famous for his "Papa burgers" and a quote, "I have no regrets, I have lived life, I have loved life."
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 1/2 years, Annie Ruth Rich of the residence; daughter, Deborrah Carroll of Dalton; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Edna Rich of Dalton; grandchildren and spouses, Heather and Adam Rich-Matteson, Casey Lynn and Billy Keith Carroll-Cowart, Lacey and Adam Carroll-Bennett, Amy and Tony Rich Sassman; great-grandchildren, Triston Findley, Lane Findley, Makala Carroll, Colter Long, Titus Matteson, Gage Long, Josiah Sassman, Adain Bennett, Emma Sassman, and honorary great-grandchildren, Emily Pierce and Davana Sanders.
Services to celebrate the life of Floyd Wendell Rich are today at 7 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with the Rev. Scott Parrish officiating. A graveside service is Friday at 10 a.m. at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton with full military honors. Pallbearers are Adam Matteson, Triston Findley, Lane Findley, Keith Cowart, Adam Bennett, Tony Sassman. Honorary pallbearers are Colter Long, Gage Long, Titus Matteson, Josiah Sassman and Adain Bennett.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to his great-grandchildren's college fund identified as the Rich Family Education Fund at any Regions Bank with contact Dana Johnson.
The family will receive friends today from 4 p.m. until the service hour.
