Mr. Donald Franklin Hight Sr, age 85 of Dalton, Georgia, went to his heavenly home, Thursday September 22, 2017 surrounded by his family. Donald was born June 10, 1932 in Bartow County, the son of the late Tyler Franklin and Fannie Elizabeth Butler Hight. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Cathy Donna Standridge; sisters, Mary Hooker, Willa Bell Woodring, brothers, Theodore Hight, Leon Towe and Leonard Towe; sons-in-law, Bob Townsend and Richard Newby.
Donald was a 1952 graduate of Dalton High. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a machinist trade and worked thirty- five years at B&J Machinery. Donald was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a kind, humble man and quite the jokester. He often gave suggestions, but never offered his opinion.
Mr. Donald Franklin Hight Jr, is survived by his wife of 65 years, Catherine Wells Hight, whom they affectionately called each other Kid; son, Donald and Hazel Hight; daughters, Carol and Joel Godfrey, Cynthia Diane Hight; sister, Jeanette Pullen; son-in-law, Quintus Standridge; grandchildren, Kit and Ashley Kern, Donna and Dale Lawhorne, Angel and Floyd Officer, Stephanie Newby and Joe Cardel, Robin and Eric Jenkins, Jason and Brandi Babb, Robbie and Kristy Townsend, Casey Mingle, Tyler Hight, Miranda Buckner; great- grandchildren, Coleman and Halyn Jenkins, Chase Jenkins, Chelsea and Andrew Shipman, Crimson and Wayne Agan, Brittanie and Josh Ford, Rayna and Preston Bartley, Ben Babb, Jacob and Jaiden Hight, Marley Mingle, Piper Reece Tarvin Peek, Floyd and Christina Officer, Matthew Wingate, Ty and Tucker Townsend, Brantley and Kambria Bucker; great-great grandchildren, Landyn Agan, Axel Shipman, Lillie Ann Hufstetler.
Service to celebrate the life of Mr. Donald Franklin Hight Sr, will be held Sunday September 24, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. from Ponders Melrose Chapel, Reverend Tom Jenkins, Reverend Eric Jenkins and Reverend Dale Lawhorne officiating. Interment will follow at West Hill Cemetery with Robbie Townsend, Tyler Hight, Coleman Jenkins, Chase Jenkins, Ben Babb, and Chuck Wells serving as pallbearers. American Legion Post #112 will conduct the Military graveside rites.
The family will receive friends, Saturday September 23, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and after 11:00 a.m. Sunday until the service hour.
