David Eugene "Gene" Rogers, 81, of Rocky Face, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at Hamilton Medical Center after a brief battle with cancer.
He was preceded in death by his father, D.F. Rogers; mother, Beulah Barks Rogers; stepmother, Eula Lee Loner Rogers; and great-grandson, Mitchel McArthur.
Gene loved and knew Jesus Christ as his personal savior and was an active member of Mount Rachel Baptist Church. He retired from Textile Rubber and Chemical Co. where he served as a laboratory technician for many years. He loved cruising and collecting Barbies, coins and anything Coca-Cola. He was a loving husband of 61 years, a great father, loving grandfather and the best ball-playing great-grandfather ever. We will miss the laughter he brought to our lives.
He is survived by the love of his life, Laura Ann (Howell) Rogers of Rocky Face; daughter and son-in-law, Gina (Rogers) and Greg Hammontree of Rocky Face; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Teresa Rogers of Dalton and Randy and Pat Rogers of Rocky Face; grandchildren, Gilly (Hammontree) and Brent Kestner of Dallas, Texas, Garett and Cassie Hammontree of Charleston, Tenn., Brandy Ogle and Ben Tunnell of Dalton, Dr. Jessica (Rogers) and David McArthur of Hillsville, Va., Allura Rogers of Dalton, Sasha Rogers and Casey Raborn of Tunnel Hill, Chelsea Rogers and Drew Walker of Rocky Face; great-grandchildren, Everlee and Kinsley Kestner, Graham and Indie Hammontree, Logan and Tyler Tunnell, William and Madison McArthur and Beau Raborn.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Rocky Face Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home with the Rev. Marty Greene officiating. Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5 until 8:30 p.m.
