Charlotte Ann's Story

Text size

Mrs. Charlotte Ann Atchley Crutchfield, 85, of Dalton, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 6, 2017.
Born in Sevierville, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Rep. Fred C. and Elizabeth Blaylock Atchley. Charlotte graduated from Sevier County High School, attended Tennessee Wesleyan University where she played basketball and sang in the university chorus; and then went on to earn her bachelor's degree in education from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
She moved to Dalton where she began teaching at City Park School. Later she left the school to focus on raising her children. She loved God, her family and the Tennessee Vols in that order. She found special joy in her four grandchildren. She was devoted to them and attended almost every game, event or activity in which they participated. For 40 years, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dalton.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, whom she loved and admired deeply.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Crutchie Crutchfield and Nancy, Danny Crutchfield and Tammy, all of Dalton; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Lele) and Mitchell Boggs of Dalton, Lawrence and Will Graves of Chattanooga, Carter Crutchfield of Clarksville, Tenn., and Mary Chandler and Ben Lamb of Dalton; and one very special great-grandchild, Mitchell Thomas Boggs II; sister, Carolyn Marshall of Sevierville; several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service is Monday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Dalton First United Methodist Church with Dr. Tommy Willingham, the Rev. Matt Evans and Mr. Doug Jensen officiating.
The family will receive friends in the atrium of the church on Monday from 1 to 2 p.m.
The family asks that flowers be omitted and memorials be made to Dalton First United Methodist Church Pre-school, 500 N. Thornton Ave., Dalton, GA 30720 or to The Alzheimer's Association, Georgia Chapter, 922 E. Morris St., Dalton, GA 30721.
