Mr. Billy Joe Phillips, 77, of Dalton, departed this life Saturday, May 6, 2017, at the local hospital surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born April 30, 1940, in Murphy, N.C., a son of the late Bill and Delcie Farmer Phillips. He was also preceded in death by a son, Terry Phillips, on July 3, 2016; his brother, Harold Phillips; and a sister, Helen Clayton.
Bill was retired from Shaw Industries where he worked for over 33 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pauline Keener Phillips of the residence (they would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on July 12); son, Mike Phillips of Dalton; grandchildren, Rendy Ellis of Calhoun, Morgan and Joseph Langford of Dalton and Michael Shane Phillips of Resaca; great-grandson, Hayden Cade Ellis of Calhoun; daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Carlene Shane and Johnny Welch of Resaca; sisters and brothers-in-law, Susie and Lamar Newton and Rosemary and Jerry Queen, all of Chatsworth; several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Billy Joe Phillips will be held today at 2 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Brother George Cross officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his beloved son at Ponders Whitfield Memorial Gardens with his close friends and family serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel after 11 a.m. today until the service hour.
